When Saturday Comes
This coming Saturday Fleet Spurs travel to Love Lane, home of Petersfield Town. Petersfield were the early pace setters, topping the table up until their recent run of form, that has seen them pick up only 1 point from the previous 4 games, shipping 13 goals in the process. Nevertheless they pushed current table toppers Brockenhurst all the way, finally dipping out 4-3 in a game that would have been good value for the neutral spectator. Last Saturday they were leading 2-0 before the game at Amesbury was abandoned due to injury.
Fleet travel in confidence following last Saturday’s convincing 2-0 victory over Stockbridge, but manager Andy Hunt is under no illusions as to how tough the visit to Love Lane will be “Regardless of the lack of points picked up in recent weeks Petersfield pushed Brockenhurst which shows they are a good side, this will be a tough game & we’ll have to be at our best to come away with the points. It’s a close division, a win here could see us move up to 2nd but a loss can see us drop a number of places. We have a run of 8 games taking us up to the end of the year, we have set ourselves a challenging points target & aim to start working towards that on Saturday”.
Saturday – 3pm kick off.
Two more join
We are pleased to officially announce the loan signing of Bimal Balal, who joins us from local Conference South side Farnborough FC. Bimal can play in various positions & has recently been playing for his parent club on the left side of midfield or as one of the front two. This is an ongoing loan arrangement which provides Bimal with the opportunity to gain experience playing senior football.
We also welcome Glenn Hunt to Kennels Lane, an experienced, no nonsense centre half. He has played locally for Farnham Town, Cove FC & most recently Hartley Wintney, where he was a key member of the CCL Division 1 promotion winning squad.
Manager Andy Hunt Commented “Bimal is another good signing which works well for Fleet Spurs, Farnborough & Bimal, he’s a young lad & his parent club are keen for him & a number of their young group of players to gain experience playing adult football. With regards to Glen, I have played with & against him for a number of seasons, he brings experience & is a solid player who will add quality to the squad & increase competition for places”
Two In
Following the departure of Tom & James Chillery, we are pleased to announce the arrival of two players from CCL Premier Cove FC. First up is left footed Ben Easey who can play either left back or left midfield, he made his debut recently against Whitchurch & is a quality addition to the squad. Along with Ben we welcome striker Rinaldo Kumbakisaka, who comes to us highly recommended, hopefully he’ll soon be amongst the goals. Both will be involved at home to Stockbridge this coming Saturday.
Chillery Brothers move on
Both Tom & James Chillery have this week left Fleet Spurs to sign for CCL Premier outfit Sandhurst Town, joining up with previous Fleet Spurs manager Salvatore De Prima. Tom returned to Fleet Spurs this season after a brief stint at Fleet Town & brother James was involved in a few games during recent weeks. We wish them well for the future.
Assistant Manager Danny Roberts commented “It’s a shame to lose both of these guys as they have ability, but if any player wants to move on, especially to a better standard of football then fair play to them. We have been looking at bringing in players over recent weeks & maybe this news has prompted us to look with a bit more urgency, we are in talks with a couple of clubs regarding players & we may add 2 or 3 new faces to the squad in time for the weekend”.
