Fleet Spurs 2 – 0 Cove F.C

New-look Fleet Spurs continued their unbeaten start to the season with an impressive 2-0 win over Combined Counties Premier League side Cove.

The game started with both sides eager to attack and Cove looking particularly sharp, producing a number of dangerous crosses, but resolute defence kept the visitors at bay.  Then slightly against the run of the play, Luke Walsh capitalised on hesitancy in the Cove defence, cleverly giving himself room for a crisp left-foot finish into an empty net.

Spurs gradually got on top after the interval, though Cove continued to threaten on the break and the game remained thoroughly competitive.  Quarter of an hour before the end, Kieren Arscott put the result beyond doubt with a far-post header from a pinpoint corner by Stuart Tanfield.

After the game, Spurs’ new manager Neil Baker said “It’s an encouraging start for the lads.  With a couple more players to come in, we’re all really looking forward to the start of the Wessex League season on 8 August.”
