Portchester started much the more impressive side, and Simon Woods and Zack Macgregor created good early chances only to be thwarted by saves from keeper Mark Appleby, a fine block by player-manager Neil Baker and a headed goal-line clearance from Tom Chillery. Spurs had a few goal attempts, and began to play better football just before half-time, but were fortunate to turn round with the game scoreless.
Fleet Spurs continued their fine run of form which is now increased to 11 games, with a gritty 3 points at Weymouth Street on a cold Wednesday night.
With Warminster being one of the Spurs longest journeys, to play them on a Wednesday night was always going to prove difficult in getting a full squad together, so we were without a number of players last night which included Luke Thorn, Phil Boddy, Michael Watson Jon Tanfield, Matt Voyce and Kieren Arscott.

Spurs extended their unbeaten run to ten games with this hard-fought victory over a spirited Horndean side. Spurs won at least partly because they now have the self-belief that results from success, and not because they were the better side by two goals.
The first half was even, with very few clear-cut opportunities, though the competitive nature of the game ensured that it never descended into boredom. Spurs probably shaded the exchanges, but a nil-nil score line at half-time was a fair reflection of proceedings.

This was Spurs’ first game since 12 December, but they swiftly overcame any rustiness, despite a number of players arriving late having been delayed by an accident on the M3. Hythe & Dibden generously offered to put the kick-off back by quarter of an hour, which enabled Spurs to start with eleven men.
