Spurs extended their unbeaten run to four games, when they were held by Petersfield in a wind-affected Tuesday night match.

Following their encouraging win at Whitchurch, assistant manager Keith Baker made only one change, bringing in Ben Clisby and moving Ben Edwards to central defence in place of unavailable player-manager Neil Baker.

Petersfield were on top for the first quarter of an hour, and only a fine save from Mark Appleby stopped Jon Pryce giving the visitors the lead. However, Spurs gradually established a dominance that was to last for most of the game. A number of slick attacks only failed at the last stage, Petersfield keeper Lloyd Patilla making a number of brave saves. The 0-0 score line at half-time was a reasonable reflection of the play.

After the break, Spurs continued on top, and it was no surprise when Luke Walsh at the far post slotted home an excellent left-wing cross from Tom Chillery. The home side continued to create chances but each time were foiled by that man Patilla. In the last quarter of an hour Petersfield began to wrest control of midfield, and five minutes from the end Nathan New made no mistake when he slid home a right-wing cross. The visitors now looked the likelier side to score, but resolute Spurs defence kept them out for the last few minutes.

A draw was a fair result, though Spurs will rue their inability to put the game out of reach during their long period on top. Their overall performance was good, though they missed the experience of Ben Edwards in midfield.

Following their first draw of the season, Spurs remain in 16th position in the league. They have a difficult fixture when they visit United Services Portsmouth on Saturday – kick-off 3.00.
