2006/07 Season Review

The end
of an era!, this season has proved to be one of the most successful and
competitive for the team. Highlights over the years include a tour in
America, two successful tours in Holland, haunted nights at Alton Towers
as well as a few late nights in the Gulshan. However the fun never
detracted from the aim of winning games and the effort applied on the
pitch has on occasions been spectacular. This season saw a quarter final
exit in the U18 Hampshire Cup competition and runners up in the Premier
Division of the NEHYL. The players have been loyal committed and it has
been a privilege to work with them over the years. None of this would
have be possible without the dedicated support of Scott Macfarlane who
selflessly worked on gaining sponsorship as well as being at my side on
match days and training and steadied me and the ship when things
occasionally became rocky. Thank you to all the parents who’s patience
and support helped thing run smoothly and to you all the very best of
luck in the future.

This is my last report as Manager as I am sadly stepping down this season. I can honestly say that over the last five seasons working with this squad and their parents has been a pleasure the players have been a great bunch of lads to work with. I am sure that if they stick together and continue improving on into next season they will continue being a credit to this club. This season was the teams first year in the Premier Division and the competition was extremely strong. 9th position was a pretty good effort for us as newcomers; however the lads know it could have been so much better and with a little more time they will be fighting for the top. Thank you to those who have supported me during my time with the team. Glynn Streeter |

This Season has been our best yet. As predicted we have gained promotion to Division One through sheer hard work and most importantly teamwork. We have secured the services of two players this Season who have been instrumental in our success and this will leave us beautifully poised to make a big impression next year. Thank you to all the parents and supporters who have added their voice to the touchlines. Mark Woodruff |

A very tough season for the players with some fun along the way and excellent individual performances. My thanks to all the players who worked their way through to the end of another season and all the parents who gave me their help. Gary Kinrade |

In this our first season as a team and for some of the players the first chance of playing competitive football in Division 3 the boys should be very proud of the effort that they have all put in. We have had some great results against better and longer established teams. As the season progressed you could see the weekly improvement in skills and results and due to our form at the close of the season have the distinction of not finishing bottom in our first year together. With the addition of a few new players and some of the talent we already have blended with a little more self belief, a top half finish next season is not out of the question!! Steve Pengilley |

A very tough season overall with many postponements meaning we sadly only played games every 3, 4 and sometimes 5 weeks. However, the boys did really well to stay motivated and we managed to keep everyone together. The lads enjoyed some close competitive games but results showed they missed regular matches. Thanks to all the parents for their supports and Angus and Andy for their superb work with the flag. Lets look forward to next season. Dave Matthews |

This has been a demanding season with results often not reflecting the balance of play, with several close defeats when a draw was fully deserved. Thus we have not accumulated as many points as we should. However, after a dip in form from most players mid term the team rallied and the season ended with players once again showing their full commitment and we have finished strongly. I would like to thank Ged for his unswerving support throughout the season. I would also like to thank Ken & Diane for their commitment to the tea/coffee stall at the home matches and to Steve Lai ( Activair ) for their sponsorship this year. Good luck to James Morrison and his family as they start their new life in Ireland and good luck also to Mark Thomas who will be taking on the job of manager next season. This was my last season as the manager after 4 years and I have enjoyed the time and wish the team well as we move up to the challenge of 11 a side next season. I will still be there to help out and support the team as much as possible. Dave Standen |

Hawks
|
This has been a great first season for the Hawks, which started last summer with a group of boys of whom the majority had never played before straight into Division 2 competing against long established teams. After a tough start the team started to grow in confidence with good performances in the League and Ash Trophy finishing the season strongly with 8 wins out of the last 9 games. It has been a pleasure to manage the team and see them develop along the way and I am sure we will go into next season challenging for a top-flight position. Paul Stutz |

3rd in the league in our first season together only begins to tell the story. Most of our team have not played competitive football before the start of this season and they have all been fantastic. They have listened well and grow in skill and confidence. Most importantly they have grown into a solid team unit Shane Bennett |

Magpies
|
A difficult first season for the Magpies. For most of the lads this was to be their first try at competitive football and it was a bit of a shock. But for all that, as the season has gone on the lads have grown in confidence and ability and are shaping up to become a good team. Most of all this year as a unit the group has bonded. They support each other in all aspects of ply, both on and off the pitch. It’s hard to keep on going with so many defeats to your name, but these lads are a credit to themselves and the club. I take my hat off to you all. Well done, roll on next season. Phil Tremayne |

Stormers
|
Having started the Season with 4 players and a few under-sevens, the Under 8s formed just in time for their first match and split into two teams before Christmas. An incredible Season for a number of reasons, but the main sense of satisfaction for all concerned is the fantastic team spirit and the vast improvement on match days that we have all witnessed this year. All the children have shown a great capacity to learn new skills and are now starting to apply them on a team basis which points to an even better season as Under 9s. The biggest thanks have to go to my mother for her generosity in donating a substantial sum of money from her friend, Milly Brown’s estate which has been spent throughout the Club but principally on the Stormers, Swifts and Under 7s. Swifts
|
In what has mainly been a development season for the under 8’s we have seen the combined squads grow form 4 to 19 players. Before long it was clear we needed to start an additional team due to the growing numbers, so the Swifts were born just before Christmas. We tried to mix abilities across both teams to aid the development of everyone and it has been rewarding to see the improvement as the season has gone on Mark Harris |
Under 7's

This has been the first season together as a team, and for many of the boys, the first season playing. The early part of the season highlighted our inexperience, but as the season progressed the team grew in both experience and confidence, the season results do not truly reflect the performance of the team, with many games lost where the Under 7’s were by far the better team. The last two months saw a good finish to the season with only 2 games out of 9 lost. Steve Coupland |
