Southwood Development
Floodlights and seats have now been installed at the new home of Fleet Spurs FC, Southwood Stadium.
We still need to raise more money to secure the lease of the whole site so please read on and see how you can still help.

A major initiative is well underway to enable Fleet Spurs FC (Seniors and Youth) take over responsibility for the lease, maintenance and running of the whole Southwood facility. THIS IS A BIG STEP, it takes the club from a group of disparate teams, spread across umpteen age groups, umpteen training facilities and umpteen playing locations to a full on “Football for all” club, providing football for all children, and adults regardless of age / sex or disabilities.
The initial phase of this plan is to take on the facility, and upgrade pitch 1 to meet the Wessex league requirements, this will include a Stand, Floodlights and hard standing around the pitch, Spurs will become somewhere where the boys can not only play, train and socialise, but somewhere where they can watch and enjoy men’s club football too. There is no other club in the area that has this sort of youth club / men’s club tie in, and no other club in the area that is as dedicated to the growth of youth football, and meeting FA Charter requirements as Spurs, we are the only club in Hart district with the coveted FA Charter Development Standard.
What does this mean to you?
It means that your son or daughter will have the opportunity to play football, in a fun and friendly environment with people they know, and friends they have met from 4 years old right up to the Veteran age groups. With our own facility we will be in a much better position to grow the Youth club, things like training will be centralised, skills will be shared and costs reduced, the long awaited nursery squad (Under 5/6) will have a home, growth in to girls football, and disabled football will have space and backing to continue and most importantly we will be a club, rather than what may sometimes appear to be a group of teams using the same banner. This is an awesome opportunity for the club, the social aspects, the football friends, the sharing of knowledge and skills will make the environment both on and off the pitch a much friendlier, much more team orientated place to be, for children and parents alike.
One of the future aims, is to provide an additional 3 mini soccer pitches at Southwood, in close vicinity to the pavilion, to grow the pavilion as a better cafe facility and to make the pavilion available on home match days. Obviously, a lot of this won’t happen until next season, but it is truly on the doorstep now.
And now the BUT!
There is always one isn’t there? This can’t happen without support, both monetary and the simple donation of time and effort. The players of the men’s teams, and the senior youth teams are already heavily tied to this development, and are actively seeking monies from many locations, a lot of money has already been raised, or promised but we need more, and soon...
Phase 1 of the spend needs to be completed by the end of January, the total spend on this initial project will be in excess of £73,000 we are looking to raise £30,000 of that, and for that we need £10,000 by the end of January, that’s a lot of money and a very short period of time, by the end of March we will need to have raised the other £20,000.
This is the challenge, if you feel you can help in any way, or perhaps your company, your parents company your sisters, brothers, aunties, uncles company may wish to donate, or sponsor the club in some way then please contact John Porter or any of the Managers as soon as possible.
This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to really create something, to build Fleet Spurs in to a real community club and provide exercise, entertainment, fun and friendship to hundreds of children for years to come.
PLEASE HELP.
