Fleet Spurs 0 Hartley Wintney 1
Fleet Spurs U7’s had their first re-match this week, taking on Hartley Wintney at home. Hartley Wintney were our first opponents and beat us 11 - 1 in our last meet.
Spurs played a blinding game, closing HW down in midfield and preventing them, most of the time, from attacking our goal with any serious intent. A few breaks from both sides saw an occasional goal mouth fluster but good keeping on the part of Robbie Coupland kept the ball out of the Spurs goal for most of the game. Excellent first half performances from all the players showed Hartley Wintney that they would not get an easy ride from Spurs again.
The second half continued much as the first, substitutions were made and yet the team worked well together no matter who was on the pitch. Despite the very evenly matched game, and a number of strong attacks from Fleet we were unable to slot in a goal. The game looked like it was heading for a 0 - 0 result until about 5 mins from time when Hartley Wintney belted a blinder of a shot at the goal from nearly 20 yards out, it found the top corner and left Spurs a little shocked and one nil down. Spurs soon recovered however and attacked back with force, but were unfortunately unable to get the ball in the net.
It would be unfair to pick any individuals out as performing exceptionally well this week, as they all performed at 110%. Pure grit and consistent tackling saw Aidan Lai awarded the Player of the Week award.
