Fleet Spurs 2    Wey Valley   1

It was a role reversal weekend for Spurs this week,  defending well against a strong Wey Valley team. Aidan Lai and Euan Champion intercepting the ball time and time again and feeding the balls forward to Mathew Farmiloe who played a blinding midfield role. A strong performance at full back from Joel Douglas saw him take home the player of the week trophy. Only one real scare in the first half which Wey Valley took full advantage of. Lots of little worries throughout the game kept our defence on their toes and showing just how strong they can be. If our defence was strong this week, our attack seemed to be drained to support that role, with very few forward movements getting further than midfield, on the rare occasions that Spurs pushed forward Mathew Farmiloe and Ben Shefras were consistently involved, but with Ben lacking support in his pushes toward goal it looked unlikely that Spurs would score but that wasn’t to be the case with Ben rolling the ball over the line in the last few minutes of the first half.

The second half saw big changes in the playing team, but few changes in the flow of the game, strong defensive work and good goal keeping kept Fleet in the game as Wey Valley pushed attack after attack, injuries were rife on both sides throughout the game and it was one such injury that saw Ben Shefras return to the pitch and Fleet Spurs start a one man attack formation. After half a dozen solo runs from the half way line and 4 or 5 almost goals Ben Shefras was finally rewarded with a goal as his shot cannoned in to the back of the net.
